Here I can achieve greatness with help

My name is Jazmine Kyle and I have been working for YCD for only two months, yet I have learned a great deal. I’ve made new friends, learned about team work and what it takes to be a team, and how to manage myself out in today’s society.

When I first came to YCD in June, I was shy and scared yet the staff was helpful and very nice. They took time in helping me learn the “ropes” and how to stay away from “deadly falls.” I’ve learned to always be prepared even in the strangest environments.

YCD is a huge family that consists of many different people with different ethnics and ways of life yet we all come together to call each other family. When we come to work, it’s like coming home and having to deal with the family. There’s always someone to talk to and share thoughts on, even if it’s not work related.

I’ve learned that to build a team you must have the proper attitude even in harsh situations. Having the proper attitude in any environment can support any cause. We all come together at one point to discuss events, planning’s, and what we need to adjust for the benefit of our clients. Not only do adults walk in and out of these doors, but the future walks in as well.

The teenagers come in with all kinds of attitudes and what have you, but they all leave feelings positive about finally getting into the fast paced working world. They are carefully guided through steps of filling out their timesheets properly and how to keep a positive attitude. As I continue to work here I feel as though I am doing more for my community than just sitting at home doing nothing, or being out on the streets getting into all sorts of trouble. Here I am safe, here I can achieve greatness with help, and here I am home.

My name is Fatima Choudhery and I am 16 years old, and I have been working for MYEEP since 2006. Working with MYEEP has shown me how to work properly with the elders, how to maintain a positive attitude towards anything that comes my way, and how being you is the greatest thing you can do.

Working with elders, teaches you a lesson not only in history, but about the troubles and how to deal with them. I have a new respect for elders and I have gained new friends and bonded with people that I never thought possible. Having an attitude that’s tolerable towards oneself or others leads to a better society.

By being yourself you can achieve much more than you could imagine than by being someone else. I’ve learned in this program, that this community can teach oneself how to become a better person and that by doing something small can mean so much more. By working with the friendly staff I have gained a new family.

This new family of mine prepares me for the world around me and the challenges that I will have to face once I’m on my own. While working with MYEEP I have learned to better prepare myself for the future by saving my money and learning to manage my bank account.
